For many of us, the arrival of summer prompts us to take the cover off the grill, shine up the smoker, and shop for fresh supplies. Those experienced with smoking foods, or just with eating smoked foods, know that wood smoke imparts a beautiful and complex flavor to most anything it lays its aromatic fingers on. Varying the types of wood used allows the outdoor chef to shake things up a bit, changing flavors and adding to the fun.

Typically, when we think of smoked foods, meats and cheeses come to mind first, but a bit of smoke can mingle well with almost anything. With that mindset, I started playing around with smoked fruits and cocktail recipes. Even if you don't have a smoker, continue to read on, because in these recipes, I got the job done with a propane torch and a grill!
