Vegetarian Chili
Nothing is better on a cold winter day than a bowl of chili. Whether you add Fritos and cheese, or keep it simple, chili is definitely a comfort food. Vegetarian chili has become quite popular in recent years. I have meat-eating friends and family who regularly enjoy the meat-free version. Vegetarian chili is also popping up on various menus throughout the metro. Check out some local favorites below.
The Red Cup
It’s no surprise that the most popular vegetarian restaurant in OKC makes a mean veggie chili. Loaded with beans, cashew cheese sauce, and jalapeños, The Red Cup’s chili is vegan and spicy. You can request it plain or as chili pie, which includes either pasta or chips, and extra veggies. For larger appetites, they offer veggie chili mac as well.

Rococo
I love it when people alert me to restaurants offering vegetarian fare. This was the case for Amber’s Vegetarian Chili at Rococo. It has a bit of an Italian flavor, which is a delicious take on this popular dish. Served with cheese, green onions, and tortilla chips, a bowl is quite filling, and with the $5 price, a great deal.

Picasso Cafe
With a section of the menu dedicated to vegetarian cuisine, Picasso Cafe is always a safe bet for vegetarians. Their veggie Frito chili pie is one of the most popular items on the menu, and is ordered by meat-eaters and vegetarians alike. With black beans and veggies, it is also available with cashew cheese and vegan sour cream, so you can order it vegetarian or vegan.

VZD’s Restaurant and Bar
The revamped VZD’s has included several vegetarian options on their menu, one of which is vegetarian chili. You can order it plain or as Frito chili pie with shredded gouda on top. In addition to the typical beans and veggies, VZD’s chili includes quinoa, making it unique and definitely worth trying.
