Scratch Paseo
I love the opportunity to share restaurants people may not know about. Scratch Kitchen & Cocktails in the Pueblo at Paseo is tucked away enough that it’s still a bit of a secret. Everything is made fresh at Scratch, and they have several delicious vegetarian options. In addition to great food, Scratch has an impressive cocktail menu. Stop in and give my cocktail and food pairings below a try or experiment on your own.
Smoked Portobello Tacos and a Berry Spritzer
The tacos at Scratch are fantastic. Subtle flavors of mushrooms and avocados combine well in this light dish available on their all-day menu. They can be shared as an appetizer or kept to oneself as a meal. Combine them with the Berry Spritzer, which is a nice, light beverage. This sparkling drink with blackberry and strawberry notes is quite refreshing. This is a delightful warm-weather pairing.
Scratch Veggie Burger and a Pimm's Cup
The Scratch veggie burger is a unique one, with a combination of a quinoa, black bean, and sweet potato patty. It’s topped with veggies and a brioche bun, but the stand-out flavor is the sriracha aioli. This burger makes a flavorful, filling meal. I paired the burger with the Scratch version of a Pimm’s Cup. It is distinctive, as they use strawberry tincture and soda water instead of the ginger beer you would find in a typical Pimm’s Cup. This is a great pairing when you have a larger appetite.
Black Bean Soup and a Hemingway Daiquiri
Also available on the all day menu, a bowl of the black bean soup is quite tasty and filling enough to be a meal. A cup makes a fine addition to their dip trio or one of their salads. It pairs well with the Hemingway Daiquiri, which includes Flor de Cana 4 year rum, grapefruit, lime, and maraschino. The Cuban flair of the soup and the tropical tastes of the drink make you want to book a flight to Havana.
