Far too often, breakfast is an exercise in utility. Once we find something we like that meets the criteria of healthy, filling, and quick, we tend to repeat it with depressingly daily dedication.

To shake it up, we occasionally allow ourselves to indulge in the ultimate breakfast treat: donuts. But if you’re going to have such a decadent breakfast, don’t waste those calories on a stale donut from the gas station or a bland one from a chain shop.

For a unique and delicious donut experience, try Hurts Donuts instead. Located on Campus Corner in Norman, Hurts has been creating inventive sugary sweets for over two years. The original Hurts opened in late 2013 in Springfield, MO. The concept took off so quickly that within the next year, the first franchised store opened here in Oklahoma.

Their case is stocked with dozens of varieties all so tempting, it can feel impossible to choose amongst the creative confections topped with candy bars chunks, cookie crumbles, or childhood favorite breakfast cereals. Their most popular offering is a take on the classic maple Long John, smothered in huge pieces of bacon. Another fan favorite is the Jesus, a cake donut with vanilla frosting dipped in cinnamon and sugar and completed with a heavenly caramel drizzle.

If you’re feeling even more extravagant, the donut milkshake is not to be missed. You pick out your favorite donut, and Hurts blends its flavors with milk and ice cream, creating a next-level treat. It’s the only milkshake in town garnished with a donut. Try it with the peanut butter cup or the Cap’N Crunch, and your day will be made.

Donut cravings don’t strike only in the mornings. Most local donut shops close early in the afternoon, but Hurts is open 24 hours a day. Even if the hunger for a blueberry streusel donut comes at 4 in the morning, they’ve got you covered. If you ever find yourself making a late-night Campus Corner bar crawl, stopping into Hurts will be the best decision you’ll make all night.

In addition to their Springfield and Norman locations, Hurts has an “Emergency Donut Vehicle” repurposed out of an ambulance and dispatched to bring tasty goods to other parts of the state. Covered with colorful sprinkles and graphics that are sure to catch the eye while barreling down I-35, Hurt’s brings their donuts for sale to places like Ada, Ponca City, Tulsa, and Seminole. In addition to cheering up citizens with sweet treats, Hurts selects a local charity in that area and donates a portion of sales to it.

The next time you get that deep urge for sugar that only donuts can cure, it would be wise to satisfy it at Hurts Donuts. Better yet, be the hero of your office and pick up a dozen to share.
