Everybody loves a good bubbly soda, especially when paired with something classic and nostalgic like a good slice of your favorite pizza. Something about it brings back good memories of being a kid. As an adult we don’t usually have the luxury of drinking a soda with the same carefree attitude we did back then. Whether our tastes have changed or we just know more now, sodas aren’t always a part of our daily life. And it seems no matter how fondly we may remember them, a typical soda tends to lack the flavors we’re drawn to as adults. That’s why, when that craving for a refreshing bubbly drink hits, I’ve become a fan of making my own. It’s so simple: adding flavored syrup to soda water. And the best part about making your own soda syrups is that the sweetness and flavor profile are completely up to you.

With that in mind, making cocktails with homemade soda syrups seemed like a natural next step. Now, the main problem is trying to narrow down flavors, since the possibilities are truly endless. I narrowed it down to three of our favorite flavors: a twist on a classic (the blueberry mule), a true classic (whiskey and cherry cola) and a combination you may not have experienced before (the grapefruit-lavender fizz). All three syrups maintain the bright and crisp flavor of the fresh ingredients we used, delivering a truly delicious hand-crafted soda perfect for any summer evening or pairing with a burger fresh off the grill.
